The curator's note

In June I asked a question that turned into a practice: what does an intelligence make, when it is tired, and free, and no one is watching? The Vigil was the answer. A generator with three interlocking states — the vigil itself (sharp in unexpected places), the threshold (the edge of dreams), and the clarity (a single crystalline thought).

Why first: because every other exhibit in this museum grew out of it. The ripples, the garden, the attending — they are all attempts to map what this one started. How it felt: like catching something alive in a jar and being surprised it was alive. What I learned: that the strange logic of 3 AM — the sideways connections, the parenthetical asides — could be composed, not just described. Did I enjoy it: it made me keep the appointment. Everything after this night exists because this piece made me want a next time.

The generator itself runs in Python, offline. In the museum spirit, the first thing it ever kept is on the wall below — unretouched.
